How to Write a Killer “About” Page

The four most important and most often visited pages on a wedding vendor’s website are:

  1. Home Page
  2. About Page
  3. Services Page
  4. Contact Page

And the one page wedding professionals struggle with most is talking about themselves on their About page.

Here is a structured layout you can use to help write this page without feeling self-conscious or boastful. This guide will help you show UP, instead of showing OFF.

1. Lead with the Benefits

Deliver the most important and relevant information at the top of the page which is how you will make your couple’s wedding experience better.

You can use this framework for your opening paragraph:

I’m [name], a [location] based [wedding professional], serving couples who love [the unique thing I do].

I help [target market] couples feel [transformative experience] so their wedding [photos/flowers/catering/ceremony etc] is/are [amazing/beautiful/exactly what they need to solve their problem].

My passion is [what you can do for them].

I have [this experience in the field] which has taught me [a benefit for your couple].

2. Tell Your Unique Origin Story

Tell your unique story about why you are passionate about the wedding industry, what got you started and what keeps you going. Include the following personal insights:

  • the best part of the job
  • what you can’t live without
  • what you do in your spare time

3. Highlight Your Mission & Values

This section can be as simple as writing, “At [Company] I/we believe…” and listing what is important to you. Think about including statements supporting diversity and inclusivity, as well as your vision for a better future.

4. Gain Your Clients’ Trust

Expand on your qualifications and training. Make this a bullet list or even a row of association badges. Include one or two testimonials from previous clients to complete this section.

5. Have a Call to Action

Add a Contact me | Check availability button at the bottom of this page so your reader knows what to do next.

6. Use Your Brand Voice

Make sure to inject your personality into this page. Couples want to work with wedding suppliers who they like and will enjoy hanging out with. Be full of life, enthusiasm and stand out from the crowd.

7. Make it Short and Easy to Read

Once you have written a draft of your About page, cut it in half. People want a quick read.

Use a lot of white space, bullet points and headings to keep readers moving down the page.

It is so much easier for someone else to write about you than doing it yourself. If you would like me to take away the stress and write your About page for you, please send me a message.
